WNC's Community Organization for Policy Advocacy (COPA) is organizing to empower our community members to engage in meaningful dialogue and influence policies that directly impact our lives and children's future. Together, we hope to drive positive change and build a brighter future for WNC.

Upcoming Public Meetings:

June 14--"No Kings" demonstration at the Sylva fountain from 10-noon. 


June 24--Jackson County School Board Meeting at the Central Office, 6pm. Public comments to publiccomments@jcpsmail.org by 4 pm the day before the meeting.


June 24--Indivisible Monthly Meeting at Jackson Dems HQ, 500 Mill St., 6:30-8:30pm 

  • Speaker Meg Hopkins, community engagement organizer at ACLU-NC, will be speaking on ways to get involved, via zoom.
  • Information on the "Know Your Rights" program. 


June 25--Banned Books an Beer: David Joy's novel, Those We Thought We Knew, set in contemporary Jackson County; Innovation, Sylva, 6pm.  


July 8--Fontana Regional Library Board Meeting at the Nantahala Library, Topton, 36 White Oak Ln, 4 pm.

Mission Statement

COPA supports our neighbors in Jackson County, NC and builds community by providing collaborative opportunities for organizations and individuals to address local policy and practical concerns. 

Vision Statement

COPA is a community-driven initiative for residents of Jackson County, NC, aimed at uniting and amplifying the voices of our neighbors while advocating for safer, stronger, and more connected communities. Through collaboration and targeted advocacy, we strive to foster a resilient community that thrives through collective action. We focus on safeguarding rights and empowering vulnerable populations, while keeping a whole-community perspective.
